Jaguar Sun x indiewave: morning coffee mix

Read time: 1 min 33 secs

Pumped to be launching a new indiewave series bringing in artists I respect to co-curate a themed playlist.  Even more pumped to have one of my go-to artists, Jaguar Sun, help kick things off.

Jaguar Sun is the solo project of Chris Minielly, a Canadian producer, multi-instrumentalist and singer.  Earlier this year I caught his set at Philly’s famous Johnny Brenda’s on a triple bill with Jaco Jaco and Husbands. He hit the stage with longtime collaborator Jesse Maranger, just 2 guitars and some looping pedals, but they filled the room with a very full sound.

I walked out in a daze.  Mostly from the fuzzy jams and slick guitar solos…but it was also 4/20.

Musically, he produces a unique brand of dream pop with an earthy DIY undertone.  On a scale from Beach House to Goth Babe, Jaguar Sun lands somewhere in the middle. Sometimes hazy and atmospheric, sometimes sun-drenched, always tugging at emotion without overcomplicating it.

He has a knack for crafting songs that start slow and then build up into a calm climax which makes for perfect morning music; and that’s the vibe we channeled building this mix.

In his words:

“Stoked to share some songs that feel like a calm sunny morning before the day begins. Chilling with a coffee in the morning is honestly probably my fav part of the day. No stress (yet) and some time to get prepped. These are some songs that make that moment feel complete.”

Whether you’re sipping a coffee on the porch or driving to work half asleep, enjoy some chilled out indie tracks with just the right dash of pep to help ease you into the day.  Big thanks to JS for helping shape the vibe, now give the playlist a spin and see where the morning takes you.
